The Spirit’s Gift of Piety strengthens us to pray with confidence from the heart. It moves us to offer prayers that can be rote or ritualistic as prayers that are truly from the heart. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus taught not to heap up empty phrases or be like the synagogue’s hypocrites (Matthew 6:5-7). Instead, He taught us how to pray the Our Father, reflecting a child’s dependence on his Father. May we imitate Jesus in prayer and respond in love to God, who first loved us (1 John 4:19).
