The Pull of Sincerity
When reflecting upon the virtues related to justice, in particular those that enable us to love our neighbor, one can clearly see their interconnectedness. For example, we are all attracted to the friendly and affable person who readily greets us with a warm smile or with sincere words. We might even describe this person as good to the core.
Defining the Character of a Sincere Person
So, let’s take a few moments to describe the character of a sincere person. First, they are honest and truthful in their words and deeds. You don’t find yourself wondering if there is another motive for their actions. The warm smile and eye contact seems to come from the heart and soul. A sincere person is approachable and comfortable with others and is not seeking their own best interests.
Seeing Christ in Every Person
While the sincere person possesses these beautiful characteristics, it is important to also recognize that they can get hurt easily, as others may misjudge their actions and intentions. Furthermore, it may also be painful to them if their sincerity and trustworthiness are called into question. We are all called to love with sincerity; may this be how we see and encounter every person. Jesus reminded us that what we do to the least ones, we do to Him (see Matthew 25).
