Twenty-four years ago our four founding Sisters, Mother Assumpta, O.P., Sr. Mary Samuel, O.P., Sr. Joseph Andrew, O.P., and Sr. John Dominic, O.P. gathered in private at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York. John Cardinal O’Connor established our Religious community, the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist which has grown to over 150 members, with 93 Sisters under perpetual vows today.

With overflowing grateful hearts, we give praise and thanks to God for all the good He has done and continues to do! Please keep our community in your prayers today and always! We dedicate this hymn, “Lumen Ecclesiae,” to all the members of the Dominican Order across the world during this year of forthcoming celebration of the eighth centenary of the death of our Holy Father, St. Dominic.

Lyrics

Oh Lumen Ecclesiae, Light of the Church foretold, Oh torch e’er burning bright, in ardor never cold. Ye sons of old, of Dominican’s own fold, Thou set on the way, preaching the truth for the soul who had gone astray. Refrain: To Praise, to Bless, to Preach the Word, to cast in flame the whole of Earth. Oh, Truth Beloved Widsom’s way; Lumen Ecclesiae! Ye led by the light, proven in darkest night All courage; all strength, evil dared not e’er to face. Oh, Order’s great soul, ye labored for the fold Of lost and of lame, bringing to Christ ev’ry one for His glory’s sake. Refrain Walk while ye have light, lest darkness be thy plight. He who walks in darkness knows not where to he shall go. We gather in the Lord, one light of one accord. Such way of unity makes ever stronger and brighter the light in thee! Refrain
