When we think of foresight, it can be easy to see it as a “bring the umbrella” list. And while such a thing is essential to foresight, it is not the full richness of it.

In an age where AI and other “Google it” capabilities provide instant answers, the art of problem-solving can be readily lost. All of us are confronted with decisions to be made or a problem to work through. In these situations, foresight enables us to draw upon past experiences and work through various scenarios. (It does differ from circumspection, which we will discuss next week.) A person with foresight can “see ahead” and recommend a course of action. It is easy to recognize why docility, another virtue related to prudence, supports foresight.

The next time you need to think through a decision, I encourage you to pause and pray for foresight to guide the process. Be sure to look at it from every perspective and then move forward with confidence and peace.
