KINDNESS

Definition:
Expressing genuine concern about the well-being of others; anticipating their needs.

Prayer:
Dear Jesus, You are kindness itself. I desire to show charity toward my neighbor through my thoughts, words, and actions. When others meet me, let them meet You in me.
Amen.

SAINT

St. Martin de Porres
Martin grew up very poor in Peru in the sixteenth century. He became a brother in the Dominican monastery. He took care of animals as well as doing manual labor and cooking for the other friars. Everyone in the city loved him because of his kindness, especially to the sick and poor. He saved novices from getting in trouble and took care of anyone in need.

PRACTICING KINDNESS:

  • By my words and actions, I make sure others around me know they are loved and cared for.
  • I tell others around me what I appreciate about them.
  • I encourage others when they are having a hard time.
  • I take notice of what others enjoy or find helpful.

SCRIPTURE:

Luke 10:33-35
But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was; and when he saw him, he had compassion, and went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; then he set him on his own beast and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, “Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I
come back.”
